Culture & History 2 / Portfolio

Culture & History 2 is a continuation from Culture & History 1. Comparing and studying ancient and contemporary architecture is essential. It allows an architect to consider a buildings or cities as more than a visual phenomenon and therefore the architect would have a more fundamental and culturally inclusive approach to architecture than an approach based purely on architect's own taste or style.

Studying the history of architecture is extremely important in order to understand how and why each era since the beginning of time formed its own unique style. The ''why'' is what really must be understood in order to produce the kind of an architecture our contemporary society needs.

Research Timeline Analysis / 01

In this project, we’re tasked to analyze and discuss the relationship of the Modern Architecture of Malaysia with social, cultural, environmental and intellectual context of Malaysian architecture post Merdeka/Independence by producing a continuous chronology poster.

This research project adopts document analysis methodology that involves documenting, analyzing, producing, and presenting orally a critical chronological interpretation of Modern Malaysian architectural history. It emphasizes critical analysis of the post Merdeka/Independence of Malaysian architecture in the effort to understand the influences of post-modernism to architectural design and construction, building science and technology, and urban design.

Zoo Negara Analysis Report / 02

This research project aims to increase understanding on the principle, ideas and contributing factors of Modern Architecture in Klang Valley. In a group of 5, we’re required to conduct a research and produce an architectural analysis report on a selected building. The building that our group has selected is the National Zoo of Malaysia, Zoo Negara. After finishing this project, I’m truly delighted that I’m able to analyze and identify specific architectural features of Modern Architecture. I’ve also realized that architecture should reflect the philosophies prevalent at any given time.
