Methods of Documentation & Measured Drawings / Portfolio
This module aims to develop an understanding of the principles of building conservation and the methods of recording it in three documentation methods respectively: measured drawings, written documentation and photographic documentation.
For measured drawings, us as students are to document historically and architecturally significant buildings in the form of as-built drawings. As for our group, the historical building that we're assigned is Sarang Paloh Heritage Stay & Event Hall, located in Ipoh, Perak.

Sketchbook & Journal / 01​
This project is an on-site exercise where we have to sketch and document the physical and intangible qualities of the buildings as well as the immediate context of the site. It can be from an element as broad as the urban planning itself down to the smallest detail of the ornaments used in the building.
Through this project, I'm glad that I have become more observant towards the surroundings in order to capture important details of the architecture, and more importantly the spirit of the place.
Video / 02​
For our second project, we're tasked to produce a video documenting the building in order to provide our audiences a 3D experience of the architecture.
This video has described architectural cultural heritage of Sarang Paloh. It alsoï‚· analyzes the relationship between architecture and the significance of the building as well as its inhabitation.
Building Report / 02
The report is an additional document that elaborates on the significance of the building measured from various aspects such as architectural, historical and cultural.
In this report, we are required to relate the architecture of the building to its significance, highlighting how the two support the inhabitation of the building.
Photo Book / 02
Besides report, we're also required to produce a photo book which contains 50 building photos – captioned and clearly annotated highlighting location and condition.
It is an additional document that accompanies the report in order to show the beauty and spirit of the place aesthetically.
Measured Drawings / 03
This project aims to produce a set of measure drawings of a historical and architecturally significant building in a specific location.
We're thus required to produce 2 set of A1 sized drawings (one with dimensions and one without dimensions) and 2 sets of A3 sized drawings (both without dimensions) comprising the following:

Location plan
Site plan incorporating the roof plan
Floor plans
Elevations
Sections
Site sections
Exploded isometric / axonometric

Final Model / 03
Lastly, we're required to produce a physical model to show the construction / structure of the buildings using ONLY balsa wood OR white model boards as either one section OR an open-able full model.
As for our group, we decided to use balsa wood to create a sectional model merging both Heritage Stay and Event Hall.
