Internship Training & Report / Portfolio

In the short semester of January 2017, we students are given opportunities to experience the working life in a real architectural firm. The focus of this module is to introduce us to the requirements, activities and operations involved in working in architectural/ construction practices. The purpose is to facilitate the involvement of students in professional attachments to architectural practices in order to develop an understanding of the general nature, principles and procedure of law and legislation as applied to architectural drawings, especially the Building by-laws. We are also exposed to the process of authority submission for various drawings from an architectural practice and the range of contract documentation produced to support these drawings.

The architecture firm I have joined is a small firm called John Lau Architect, located at my hometown, Miri, Sarawak.

Upon successful completion of this internship program, the experience of working at John Lau Architect has enriched me greatly. I am truly thankful for being granted the opportunity to working in my hometown, becoming a member of a real architecture firm, working with professionals, practicing my skills and knowledge, and learning a lot of new things I could probably never have learnt in university. Throughout the entire procedure, I have developed several understandings and set of skills. Understandings such as procedures and requirements to Planning Submissions, as well as other computer application skills.

Below shows the completed report with detailed recordings of what I have accomplished during my time in the company. All files, images, drawings and related documents are owned by John Lau Architect and protected under the company’s right and intellectual right. Permission has been obtained and is approved by the company.
