Design Studio 2 / Portfolio
Architectural Design Studio 2 is a continuation from Design Studio 1. The key emphasis of this studio is “User and Context”, which investigates the relationship between user and natural environment.
Us as students have undertaken a series studio based exercises and assignments that introduce the principles and methods of analysis, abstraction, and synthesis in design thinking that are common to many design fields, including building and architecture.

Famous People, Familiar Faces / 01
Our first project has taught us to investigate and to explore how spaces are created from the making of architectural elements: architectonics.- solid, planes, lines and frames. We’re also introduced the idea of using pure and diagrammatic models to express architectural ideas.
Vanna Venturi House – Robert Venturi
Designed for his elderly mother Vanna, Robert Venturi used the house as a canvas to demonstrate some of the “complexities and contradictions” in modern architecture.
Venturi took issue with the modernist movement’s overly simplified solutions. He challenged the modern architecture establishment’s rigid, formalist rules and reductionist strategies, believing that buildings, like the people who occupy them, are just not that simple.
With his Vanna Venturi house — widely considered to be the first postmodern building design — Robert Venturi showed us that sometimes, rules are meant to be broken.

Observation Deck / 02a
In this project, we’re tasked to design an Observation Deck at Cape Rachado, Port Dickson
for the purpose of observing the views. The aim of this project is to generate structure, form and space through architectural conceptualization with the emphasis on the user requirement, ergonomics and site responding to develop an architectural proposition. Besides, the structure of the deck should correspond to the site that we have chosen. A proper site analysis which includes climatic studies, circulation pattern, views and vistas, etc. thus should be done beforehand.

Retreat House / 02b
In this final project, we’re tasked to design a Retreat House at Cape Rachado, Port Dickson which denotes ‘A place affording peace, quiet, privacy and security’ ..... where its occupant(s) would reside for a short period of time. My client is a romantic astronomer. In short, this project introduces the notion of architectural space making through the design of a user specific architectural scheme. It explores the relationship between architectural tectonics, function and space in architecture.
