Project Management / Portfolio

This module’s aim is to develop management skills for us in the ever growing subject called Project Management. The module introduces the principle, techniques and managerial issues, which form the process of project management. The area of study focuses in particular on project management in a construction context but will also make considerable reference to the activity in other fields of commercial and business activity to emphasize the broad applicability of the principle. Project Management is an application of knowledge, skills and techniques for which to execute projects effectively and efficiently using strategic competency for organizations, enabling them to connect project results to business goals.

Defining and Documenting a Project / 01

In a group of six (6) members, we were tasked to design and manage a simple construction project in a way that emphasizes cost, quality or time, with a measurable ‘success criteria’. We were introduced to the roles of a Project Manager, client and other stakeholders involved in a project life cycle, and identified project objectives and goals and strategize them to achieve a satisfactory project completion. We were engaged in weekly mock Client-Consultant Meetings (CCM) where each member was tasked to handle their job scope as well as learn how to organize and conduct meetings.

Our fictional client, the Taylor’s Management, has approached our project management company with an idea of a ‘Recreational Station’, a building that will house students’ recreational activities both indoors and outdoors to be used in August 2018. Hence, the project needs to be carefully planned and implemented to its completion before August 2018.

The following showcases the compilation of our project management report plan of what we had documented throughout the initiation and execution of the project for our client.

Documentation of a Medium-Sized Project / 02

This individual assignment is aligned with the Design Studio 6’s Architecture Design Project and requires us to document the project management aspects of the final design project. The report reflects our understanding in the terminologies, knowledge areas, application of the tools and systems, planning whilst demonstrating our capabilities in discharging our duties as a Project Manager.

The report highlights the five different aspects needed for this assignment including Project Introduction, Design Suitability and Project Viability, Project Procurement and Resource Planning, Risk Analysis and Maintenance Strategy, and Project Deliverables.

The following shows the compilation of A4-sized project management report submitted for this task.
